ISSUES OBTAINING BUSINESS RATES GRANTS

  • 02/05/2020

One of our members, Habib Rahman, Chairman of Alison Law Solicitors is interested to hear from members regarding any issues that you may be facing in obtaining Business Rates grants.

In particular, he is interested to hear from other members who are currently not entitled to small business rate relief for their premises.

It is the belief of Mr Rahman that the government’s approach as concerns the criteria and eligibility for obtaining Business Rates Grants is potentially unlawful as it discriminates against solicitors, accountants, tax advisors and medical practices who under the current criteria set by the government are ineligible to Business Rates Grants as they are not classed as a ‘retail unit.’ As a result not only are those businesses not going to be entitled to the grant but also will be prevented from getting rates relief for this coming year.

Further, he also takes issue with the government’s approach and policy to prevent businesses from obtaining the grant in circumstances where they hold a rateable value in excess of £51,000.00.

Habib would like to hear from any and all members and particularly any members who are currently experiencing issues with obtaining Business Rates Grants as outlined above.

Please contact Habib by e-mail at [email protected] should to wish to discuss matters further.

Kindly note that all e-mails will be considered with the upmost confidentiality and fidelity.
