PLEASE HELP WITH OUR CALL TO THE GOVERNMENT TO GRANT LEGAL AID TO THE VICTIMS AND THEIR FAMILIES OF TERRORIST ATTACKS

  • 12/07/2019

Victims of terrorism do not automatically get legal aid for representation at lengthy and complex Coroner’s inquests.  You may have seen the reports in the national press about this injustice in respect of the Westminster and London Bridge inquests.  Lawyers for the families have argued that it is unreasonable to expect the bereaved to represent themselves, in a court room where all other parties including public authorities are represented by multiple barristers.  Clearly this offends the principle of equality of arms and a fundamental pillar of the rule of law.  It’s time to right this wrong before the families of victims of the Manchester Arena bombing face the same iniquities in the upcoming inquest.  To show your support, please sign and share the change.org petition launched by James Hodder, the partner of one of the London bridge victims which can be found HERE

Equally important, please write to your MP and ask them to support MP Steven Lloyd’s Early Day Motion (#2368) calling for automatic publically funded representation for all victims of terrorist atrocities in Coroner’s inquests.
