Wood Street Mission – Easter Appeal

  • 15/02/2016

Dear Friend

A brief update from the team at Wood Street.

Easter Appeal

Easter is early this year which means time for us to dust off our eggy puns and get cracking on our Easter Appeal.  This year we are just collecting eggs – not food – and we have set ourselves a target to beat last year’s collection total of 6000 eggs. Children on average get 9 eggs each at Easter time, but many of the families we help cannot afford treats for their kids, particularly during school holidays. If you are able to contribute to the appeal, it is a simple but nice way to make a bit of a difference.

Our Easter appeal poster can be downloaded here – please get eggs to us by Friday 18 March.

Volunteer Opportunities

We have lots of rewarding volunteer opportunities at the moment. We are looking for volunteers to sort and organise donations, help out at holiday and half-term book clubs, and support fundraising events. If you have a few hours to spare a week and would like to find out more, contact Sophie our fundraiser by emailing [email protected]

Van collections

Finally, thank you to everyone who sent cards and good wishes to Barry Bostock, our now former driver, who retired at the end of January. We gave Barry a send-off in the Gas Lamp pub on Bridge Street (once our old kitchen!) at which it was clear he was touched to have received so many kind words from donors and supporters.  The van of course is still on the road with two new drivers – Dave Wayne and Simon Dawes Wood – so if you want to book a collection for our Easter appeal or any other donation, give us a call on 0161 834 3140.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes
