THE PUBLIC LAW PRO BONO SCHEME

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The Public Law Pro Bono Scheme (“the Scheme”) operated by the Northern Administrative Law Association (“NALA”), Irwin Mitchell LLP and the University of Manchester (“the University) is now in full operation at the Administrative Court sitting in Manchester.

We are seeking experienced public law practitioners (either solicitor or barrister subject to below) who specialise in all areas of judicial review to contribute to the Scheme, and to make a difference in these times of austerity to those without legal representation. We seek practitioners for the following areas:

(a) Drop in sessions that occur on the third Thursday of every month at the Manchester Civil Justice Centre. The session is supported by students from the University, and together with the lawyer (either solicitor or barrister) they can give general advice on impending or existing applications in the Administrative Court; and
(b) To represent litigants in person at a renewal hearing, in particular we are seeking barristers or solicitor-advocates who specialise in all areas of judicial review (with advocacy experience in the Administrative Court), but in particular in immigration, social welfare, planning and local government. You will be contacted once a suitable case is identified subject to your specialism to arrange a renewal-hearing date.

Please contact the Scheme Director if you wish to be added to either list or for any queries and/or further information.
