No solicitor unsupported in times of need or crisis
SBA The Solicitors’ Charity has been working at the heart of the legal profession for over 150 years. It is dedicated to helping solicitors both past and present, and their families, who are in serious financial need.
We determine ‘serious financial need’ by using research produced by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s Minimum Income Standard. We can provide grants and interest-free loans (usually secured), support with career transition and access to bespoke personal insolvency advice. Talk to us, in confidence.
Support for the Legal Professions
Established in 1997, LawCare is a registered charity and works throughout the UK, Isle of Man and the Republic of Ireland. Support is available to students, those in training, legal professionals, support staff and their families. Our helpline operates 365 days a year.
The trained staff and volunteers taking your call have worked in the law and understand the demands of a legal career. We have helped thousands of legal professionals cope with issues such as stress, workplace bullying, disputes with colleagues and alcohol misuse.

The Solicitors’ Assistance Scheme offers free confidential help and legal advice for all solicitors in England and Wales, their families and employees on any problem troubling them, whether personal or professional. We offer a lifeline to solicitors with problems by providing a fellow practitioner who will listen and help. The SAS is independent of the Law Society and SRA.
