It is a condition of authorisation under the new SRA Handbook which came into effect on 6 October that all firms must have a COLP (Compliance Officer for Legal Practice) and COFA (Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration) appointed. Firms will have to make their nominations to the SRA by March 2012 so there is very little time to get to grips with the roles, responsibilities and potential risks involved.
