Manchester Law Society Concilliation Service

Manchester Law Society offer a concilliation service to deal with complaints about solicitors regarding poor service. For further details on the types of issues we are able to deal with please see the section entitled Information re Service.

You should be aware that all solcitors frms MUST have procedures for handling complaints. If you have a problem about poor service, you shoud discuss this with your solicitor first. It is useful to put it in writing, because the solicitor will then have a record of the details. If you would rather phone or make an appointment to visit the firm you should make sure that you:

  • speak to the person at the firm who deals with the complaints;

  • tell them what the complaint is about; and

  • say what you want them to do about it

The solicitor should do everything in his or her power to sort out the problem to your satisfaction. You have the right to be treated with care and professionalism, but your solicitor needs to understand why you are not happy in order to sort out the problem.

Many complaints involve misunderstandings, delay and concerns about costs. The cause of many of these problems is often poor communication, Most solicitors, once they realise your concerns, will apologise and give you an explanation. That will often allow you to continue working with them with more confidence. Sometimes more is needed but sorting the problem directly with your solicitor can be better for both you and the solicitors. It means that:

  • things can be dealt with in person;

  • it can be quick; and

  • it should help you and your solicitor work better together in the future

Should you not be able to resolve your concerns by dealing directly with your solicitor and wish to use Manchester Law Society Concilliation Service please read the section entitled Information re Service and then fill on the form in the section entitled Complaints Form as fully as possible.

If you wish to discuss the matter further please contact the national Law Society complaints body called The Consumer Complaints Service. Their helpline number is 0845 608 6565 (mini com service 0845 601 1682).
