LAUNCH OF NEW PRIVATE CLIENT COMMITTEE

PRIVATE CLIENT COMMITTEE

We are preparing to launch a new Manchester Law Society committee for private client lawyers.

The aim is to provide a forum for solicitors and barristers specialising in this area,  to meet, discuss issues important to them and to provide support for each other.

We intend to work alongside other organisations, in particular, the Society for Trust and Estate Practitioners (“STEP”), to ensure that we avoid any duplication.  STEP already provides a fantastic programme of lectures, courses and an annual conference that helps to ensure that there is plenty of opportunity to maintain your legal knowledge.

We therefore propose that this group will focus on practical issues that lawyers face in their daily work.

How to deal with executors who can’t agree, disgruntled beneficiaries, reporting obligations like FATCA and the new register of people with significant control and new rules such as the extension of DOTAS to inheritance tax.

Deborah Clark of Mills & Reeve will be chairing this committee and how often we meet, what we discuss and where we focus our attention will all be issues we will discuss at our first meeting, so if you want an opportunity to help shape this committee and make it really useful for you, please let us have expressions of interest.  We are hoping to have our first meeting towards the end of March.

Please email [email protected] if you would like to join this committee.
