Dear All,

I am very sorry to report that the appeals against the Judicial Review judgment in respect of the Criminal Legal Aid duty contracts tender by the Law Society and the London Criminal Courts Solicitors’ Association and Criminal Law Solicitors’ Association have failed.

The judgment was handed down today. The tender process has now restarted. We have issued a press release expressing our deep disappointment and concern.

You can view it here: http://www.lawsociety.org.uk/news/press-releases/court-of-appeal-rejects-challenge-to-government-plan-for-criminal-legal-aid/

This is how the Gazette is reporting the story: http://www.lawgazette.co.uk/law/court-of-appeal-dismisses-criminal-legal-aid-challenge/5047841.article

The National Law Society have also issued guidance to the Members through a special Legal Aid Update. You can see the guidance on our website here:

The National Law Society will continue to represent our views of the impact of the cuts upon access to justice and our members at all available opportunities.

Yours sincerely,

Andrew Caplen
President of The National Law Society
