Applications sought for a trustee with a legal background for the Board of St Catherine’s Hospice, Preston

  • 24/09/2014

St Catherine’s is a highly regarded modern hospice providing specialised care, support and information for people experiencing serious illness.

It’s mission is to help all in Central Lancashire facing life-shortening illness to experience quality of life and when it comes, dignity in death. To make this possible the hospice works closely with local people, patients, families, carers, volunteers and other health and social care professionals.

As a registered charity, St Catherine’s is governed by a Board of Trustees that oversees the work of hospice care by providing strategic direction, monitoring performance and ensuring that the charity has sufficient funds to deliver its services and honour its promises to the people and organisations who give so generously each year.

It costs just under £5m to run St Catherine’s per annum and almost 75% of its income is derived from charitable support with the remainder through agreements with the NHS.

St Catherine’s Hospice is a complex operation that employs around 170 staff, the majority of whom are medical, clinical and social care professionals, and a vital team of over 500 volunteers which includes members of the board.

Like any organisation one of the keys to our continued success is good governance and we are now seeking to strengthen our Board.

Following a skills audit of existing board members, the hospice is seeking to appoint a trustee with a senior level legal background to complement existing expertise on the Board. it would be helpful if that included employment law, contracts, compliance or health and safety – but the legal speciality is not essential.

The hospice welcomes expressions of interest from all sections of the diverse communities that make Central Lancashire the vibrant place it is today.

Closing date for submissions of interest: Monday 20th October
